AI Filmmaking at Circle B Productions
We wanted to share two rough-cut clips from Brother Jonathan and the Dragon’s Teeth and give you a glimpse of how the film is beginning to come to life.
AI filmmaking is taking our production process to WARP speed. I’m not even completely finished with the first rough draft of the screenplay, and we’re already able to take words and scenes from the page and begin turning them into actual video.
It’s honestly hard to fathom how much this changes the process of making an independent film. Scenes that once would have remained words on a page for months—or even years—while we worked toward production can now begin taking visual form while the screenplay itself is still being written. We can see what works, discover what doesn’t, make changes, and continue refining the story as we go.
The first clip takes place in the present day. Filmmaker Will Hunt and his business partner, Rain Elkskin, a Medium and Seer, visit the Del Norte County Historical Society Museum while researching the sinking of the Brother Jonathan. There, they meet a museum volunteer who reminds Will that he isn’t the first Hunt to be a teller of stories.
The second clip comes from a historical montage set on July 31, 1865—the day after the Brother Jonathan sank. A Union soldier rides from Crescent City through the rugged wilderness toward Jacksonville, Oregon, carrying news of the disaster to the nearest telegraph connection so word of the sinking can begin spreading to the outside world.
These are still rough cuts. There will be more work on the visuals, sound, editing, performances and historical details before anything is considered finished. But for us, seeing scenes that have lived in research notes and on script pages begin to move, breathe and become a film is pretty remarkable.
We wanted to share a little of that journey with the family, friends and supporters who have encouraged us along the way.
